The Bund Introduction

“The Bund” is an Anglo-Indian term for the embankment of a muddy waterfront. The Bund, however, is much more glorious than its name implies. It is famous for the multitude of colonial styles of architectures lining the street along the Huangpu River. The 52 buildings in the Bund represent different architectural styles, such as Gothic, baroque, Roman, Renaissance, British, French and East Indian. Though they differ from each other, all these buildings achieve a harmonic outline when viewed as a whole. During the 1920’s and 1930’s, the bund was the Wall Street of Asia. Powerful foreign financial houses were represented in the huge edifices that lined the edge of the river. Glimpses of this era are still evident in several of the hotels and bank buildings that allow visitors in to gawk at the marble columns, wide staircases, and rich wood paneling. Photographs are not allowed, so don't try.
Outside you can cross the street and walk along the river o­n the expansive rivercade, to watch the constant flow of river barges or admire the ever-growing skyline of Pudong.

The Bund Features

Huangpu Park was completed in August,1868,the earliest park built in Shanghai.The Park has been reconstructed  several times  due to the time was gone.In 1989,Huangpu Park was rebuilt and covers an area of 20,677 square meters.

Huangpu River Sight-seeing is an important traditional tour festival in Shanghai. The reason not o­nly lies in the fact that Huangpu River is the Mother river,  on behalf of the symbol and miniature of  Shanghai .From the view of  Huangpu River ,you can have  a better understanding of the past,present and future of  Shanghai.

The Bund Transporation

  Chenyi, the first term of  Shanghai  Mayor  after China 's liberation has been long respected by comman people. In order to liberate and construct Shanghai, Chenyi devoted himself to work and made contributions for the whole city. If you walk in the Nanjing Road, You will find Chenyi's statue stands in the road,which ,facing south. Every weekends, visitors will have the opportunity to listen to the square concert.
